Kingsmoor and Blue Skies laud food-to-go partnership

For thermoformed packaging specialist, Kingsmoor Packaging, being able to innovate consistently and anticipate new trends is all part of staying ahead of the game. A trait particularly important in the burgeoning UK food-to-go sector, where the demand for quick and easy snack options continues to surge, especially for healthier food choices such as salads, fruits and sushi.

Kingsmoor’s ongoing collaborative relationship with award-winning, global fresh fruit producer, Blue Skies, is testament to that. Supplying a variety of trays and bowls for cut fruit, the majority of which are destined for leading grocery retailers in the UK and overseas, Kingsmoor provide a full end-to-end production, supporting their customer with design requests and samples, whilst at times, meeting the shortest of lead times.

“We really like working with Kingsmoor, and have been working with them for many years.  We appreciate the service, product quality and help with new product development in particular,” said Tom Pile, Blue Skies procurement manager.

With the range of ingredients in today’s food-to-go items visibility is key, in particular with healthier products options such as the wide variety of fresh fruit options from Blue Skies. Kingsmoor is producing packaging that presents the product in a clear visual way where consumers can see exactly what they are getting and in a format that is easy to open and eat from.

Kingsmoor Packaging’s managing director, James Hill, said: “Customers such as Blue Skies are after slick, cost effective, well thought out packaging. The packaging needs to promote the product and make the contents look as good as possible. For us innovation is key and we are constantly looking at market trends and consumer needs within the food-to-go sector. The design, materials and lightweighting of our packaging are all vital areas within the innovation process.”

All of Kingsmoor’s packaging for Blue Skies is manufactured in rPET containing at least 50% post-consumer recycled waste and at least 30% industry recycled waste.

Hill added: “Consumers have a thirst for ‘fresh’ food-to-go items, that are convenient, available every day, reasonably priced and packaged to ensure an element of shelf life - therefore certain substrates like plastics are the most suitable option. As many of the larger retailers are finding, there are not that many alternatives.”

Holding a AA grade BRC certification, Kingsmoor Packaging manufacture food grade packaging solutions from their manufacturing site in Somerset. With in-house tooling and design, operating in tandem with their state of the art modern production facilities, they provide customers with a nimble, flexible and cost effective single source service.
